Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Data Management, the Senior Data Solution Engineer acts as the subject matter expert in the area of data architecture with the Data Management team.  Specifically, this role will support data modeling, data integration and data consumption of Texas Capital Bank’s Enterprise Data Strategy.


This role requires a willingness to evaluate and learn new tools and technologies. The Senior Data Solution Engineer must possess a collaborative attitude, strong oral/written presentation skills, excellent problem solving skills and solid analytical/critical thinking skills.


  • Position functions as a thought leader with the Data Management Team in the areas of data modeling, data access, data quality, data integration, data analytics, data visualization, data discovery, and database design/implementation
  • Develop and maintain enterprise data development and architectural standards/policies in support of TCB’s data strategy following data management best practices
  • Liaison between vendors and service providers selecting products or services that best meet data strategy goals in conjunction with the enterprise architecture team, IT management, and other internal stakeholders
  • Partner with TCB’s data governance team to ensure implementations meet enterprise data requirements and quality standards
  • Partner with TCB’s information security and privacy teams to ensure implementations meet internal policies and external regulations
  • Work closely with Data Management team to monitor and execute development and architectural standards including data models and data integration solutions (ETL)
  • Foster and execute industry best practices for advanced analytic/business intelligence implementations, such as SSAS tabular/multidimensional models and Azure Analysis Services
  • Ensure TCB’s data strategy links to other architecture models and reference architectures
  • Ensure technical metadata and data dictionaries are properly managed and correlated with business metadata and glossaries
  • Ensures TCB’s master data is properly integrated into the data platform and distributed appropriately to consumers


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or MIS related area and/or 10+ years of experience designing solutions for large scale data warehouses in both on premise and cloud environments; Financial services experience preferred
  • Certifications in Microsoft SQL Server and Azure preferred
  • Proven technical production environment experience including:
    • Required
      • Database: SQL Server 2008R2/2012/2014/2016, including T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS and SSAS
      • TFS, Team Services, or similar source control and work tracking systems
    • Preferred
      • Microsoft Azure: HDInsight, SQL, Data Warehouse, Data Lake, Analysis Services, Machine Learning, other Big Data tools (Hive, U-SQL, Spark, Pig), and Azure storage
    • Required
      • Data modeling tools such as ER/Studio or ERWin
    • Preferred:
      • Business intelligence/analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and Alteryx
  • Strong data warehouse experience including:
    • Solid hands on experience with data modeling principles, methods, and techniques for data consolidation and processing optimization
    • Deep understanding of data integration methods and database design principles
    • Data management, quality, governance, and security
    • Methodologies such as Kimball and Inmon
  • Experience in a complex environment required including:
    • Master Data Management inclusive of knowledge of how to develop information taxonomies
    • Metadata management and associated processes required
  • Strong discipline in full life cycle development required
  • General knowledge of or exposure to privacy/regulatory/compliance in a highly-regulated environment
  • Knowledge of different software development methodologies desired (e.g. Agile, Waterfall)
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
  • Ability to obtain, analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources
